Question? How do I recover the inbox/outbox histories recorded in the existing VCN-AX 5.0/4.0 when replacing the computer with a new one?

Answer To migrate the inbox/outbox histories and the configurations when replacing the computer with a new one, the additional procedures are required while installing the software (the same version of e-Parcel VCN-AX) in a new computer. The following steps will guide you.

* However, please note that the performance is not completely guaranteed in a new computer with the migration of the existing inbox/outbox histories and the configurations by the following operation procedures introduced in this webpage as you see. We are afraid that any problem caused by the migration is not included in our customer support. Hereafter, you are responsible for operating the procedures below.

* Unless there is some particular reason, we recommend the procedures for just newly installing in a new computer without migration of the existing inbox/outbox histories. In that case, take the operation procedures introduced in this Q&A page.
(For your information, it is also available to view the inbox/outbox histories on the Web in a computer installed your digital certificate.)

* In this case, please note that you must install the same version of VCN-AX as before in a new computer. When downloading the client software in a new computer, please be aware that the existing ver.4.0 users must select VCN-AX4.0 or the existing ver.5.0 users must select VCN-AX 5.0.

* For your information, due to alteration of our contract, if the existing VCN-AX ver.4.0 users change to another product ver.5.0, to migrate the inbox/outbox histories and the configurations when replacing the computer with a new one, replace a parent folder including "Database folder (\db) & Data folder (\data)" with the previous folder in a new computer by the operation described below at [New PC Procedure 6.]. And furthermore, you must remember to rename a parent folder from [C:\e-Parcel\VCN-AX 4.0] to [C:\e-Parcel\VCN-AX 5.0]. (Please note that the performance is not completely guaranteed in a new computer. We are afraid that any problem caused by the migration is not included in our customer support.)

* Attention: For the existing ver.4.5 users, the VCN-AX 4.5 has been upgraded to ver.5.0. However, updating from the existing ver.4.5 to ver.5.0 is NOT available. Because the database format has been changed. We are afraid that you cannot recover the inbox/outbox histories and the configurations of the existing ver.4.5. Please newly install ver.5.0 and configure in a new computer. Take the operation procedures introduced in this Q&A page. Or, refer to the e-Parcel VCN-AX 5.0 / 4.0 Quick Guide in detail.

* Attention: Note that you should uninstall (delete) the existing e-Parcel client software from the previous computer when replacing the computer with another one. The e-Parcel service has adopted the client digital certificate for mutual recognition between the server and a client. (Authentication) Therefore, one e-Parcel ID is NOT available to use in the multiple computers. One e-Parcel ID must be set up to the e-Parcel client software in only one computer. Procedure Procedures for a previous computer (Old PC) 
  1. Start a previous computer in which the existing e-Parcel VCN-AX 5.0/4.0 runs. (an old computer)

    * Note that you should move (save) your inbox items which status are "Delivery Confirmed" or "Item Opened" before changing to a new computer. When do so, the status of items will be updated to "Item Moved".

    * Attention: Please be advised that you should start the following procedures after uploading and downloading data have been confirmed on the e-Parcel software in a previous computer.

  1. 1. Stop Windows "Service" for the existing e-Parcel VCN-AX 5.0/4.0.

    * For Windows 10 or later, select the Windows "Start" menu > "Windows Administrative Tools" > "Service". In the Services pane, select the "e-Parcel VCN-AX x.x" listed and then stop the service.

    * For Windows 8 or earlier, select the Windows "Start" menu > "Control Panel" > "System and Security" > "Administrative Tools" > "Services". In the Services pane, select the "e-Parcel VCN-AX x.x" listed and then stop the service.

  2. 2. On Windows taskbar, in the notification area, right-click the icon "e-Parcel VCN-AX x.x" (grayed-out effect), then select "Exit" from pop-up menu.

    * At this point, the tooltip description "VCN-AX Not Working" is shown when mousing over the Windows taskbar notification area icon.

    When stop VCN-AX Manager (axmanager.exe), the e-Parcel icon is no longer shown in Windows taskbar notification area.

    * For Windows 10 or later: If Windows does not show the e-Parcel icon in the notification area on the taskbar, right-click on the taskbar, then select "Taskbar settings" from menu. (Or, select the Windows "Start" menu > Windows System > Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Taskbar and Navigation) On the Settings "Taskbar" window, under "Notifications Area", click "Select which icons appear on the taskbar". The icons list is displayed. Turn on the "VCN-AX Manager x.x" toggle to apply change to "On".

    * For Windows 8 or earlier: If Windows does not show the e-Parcel icon in the notification area on the taskbar, click the arrow next to the notification area on the taskbar. (Or, select the Windows "Start" menu > Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > "Customize icons on the taskbar") On the "Notifications Area Icons" dialog, change the "VCN-AX Manager x.x" to "Show icon and notifications" as the behavior.

  3. 3. On a previous computer, copy ①a folder below as your backup. (At the later step, migrate this folder to a new computer.)

      ①Default location (Database folder/Data storage folder) is C:\e-Parcel\VCN-AX 5.0/4.0

    * Once the location has been changed on the existing e-Parcel client software, locate where you have specified and then copy two folders below (②\db:Database folder/③\data:Data storage folder) as your backup. If ②③ folders are located in a same folder, copy a parent folder including two folders (①\VCN-AX 5.0/4.0) as your backup.

      ②Database folder : (Default folder path is C:\e-Parcel\VCN-AX 5.0/4.0\db)

      ③Data storage folder :(Default folder path is C:\e-Parcel\VCN-AX 5.0/4.0\data)     

  4. 4. On a previous computer, copy ④a folder for HotFolders and ⑤a folder for Automations below as backup. (At the later step, migrate these folders to a new computer.)

      ④HotFolder Location : (Default folder path is C:\e-Parcel\HotFolders)

      ⑤Automation Location : (Default folder path is C:\e-Parcel\Automations)

    * Once the locations have been changed on the existing e-Parcel client software, copy two folders in the locations where you have specified as your backup.

  5. 5. Start Windows "Service" for e-Parcel VCN-AX 5.0/4.0.

    * For Windows 10 or later, select the Windows "Start" menu > "Windows Administrative Tools" > "Service". In the Services pane, select the "e-Parcel VCN-AX x.x" listed and then start the service.

    * For Windows 8 or earlier, select the Windows "Start" menu > "Control Panel" > "System and Security" > "Administrative Tools" > "Services". In the Services pane, select the "e-Parcel VCN-AX x.x" listed and then start the service.

  6. 6. Proceed to the lower column [New PC Procedures] to install the latest version of the e-Parcel client software.

    * Note that the existing e-Parcel client software will be offline (inactive) in a previous computer just after the same e-Parcel ID has been set up to the software in a new computer.

    * One e-Parcel ID is NOT available to use in the multiple computers. One e-Parcel ID must be set up to the e-Parcel client software in only one computer.

  7. 7. Uninstall (delete) the existing e-Parcel VCN-AX 5.0/4.0 from a previous computer (Old PC).

    Select the Windows "Start" menu > e-Parcel > "Uninstall VCN-AX x.x".

    * For Windows 8 or earlier, select the Windows "Start" menu > All Programs > e-Parcel > VCN-AX x.x > "Uninstall VCN-AX x.x".

    * Attention: Before you start to uninstall (delete) the software, check the inbox items of "Delivery Confirmed" and then move (save) the files as necessary.

Procedure Procedures for a current computer (New PC) 
  1. Start a current computer. (a new computer)

    Let's install your e-Parcel client digital certificate and the latest version of the e-Parcel VCN-AX 5.0/4.0.

  2. 1. Click the button just below to start the procedures. (STEP 1~6 on the webpage)

    The detailed instructions will be shown in figures at each step after login to the e-Parcel download site.

    * At STEP 4, when installing (importing) the digital certificate in Windows, you must sign in Windows with a user account which runs the e-Parcel client software.

  3. 2. To download and install a client digital certificate, follow the instructions of STEP 1~5 on the webpage "e-Parcel software download site".

    * On the webpage STEP 2, Note that you must carefully select the same client software as before (VCN-AX 4.0 users →ver.4.0 / VCN-AX 5.0 users→ver.5.0).

  4. 3. To download and install the e-Parcel client software, follow the instruction of STEP 6 on the webpage "e-Parcel software download site".

    * Attention 1: At STEP6, when you wish to change the location of Database folder and/or Data storage folder on a new computer, while software installation (on the Install Shield Wizard "Database Folder" and "Data Folder" location ), set each folder location where you wish on a new computer (click "Next" to set default folder / click "Change" to select a different folder). And then proceed to the installation.

    * Caution: The "service" for e-Parcel VCN-AX 5.0/4.0 often runs with log on as Local System account by default. When you change the location of "Installation folder", "Database / Data storage folder", "HotFolder Location" and "Automation Location", please be sure that Windows logon account of the "service" for e-Parcel VCN-AX must be authorized to "Modify" the specified folders.

    While auto-setup, the Confirmation dialog will show the message "Previous installation found. Proceeding setup may cause it dysfunctional.". Click the "Cancel" button on this dialog.

    When setup cancelled, click the "OK" button.

    On the "Install Shield Wizard Completed" dialog, click the "Finish" button. The software installation is finished in a new computer without setup.

  5. 4. From this step, let's take the additional procedures to migrate the configuration and the inbox/outbox histories of a previous computer.

    Stop Windows "Service" for e-Parcel VCN-AX 5.0/4.0 when the e-Parcel client software installation is completed.

    * For Windows 10 or later, select the Windows "Start" menu > "Windows Administrative Tools" > "Service". In the Services pane, select the "e-Parcel VCN-AX x.x" listed and then stop the service.

    * For Windows 8 or earlier, select the Windows "Start" menu > "Control Panel" > "System and Security" > "Administrative Tools" > "Services". In the Services pane, select the "e-Parcel VCN-AX x.x" listed and then stop the service.

  6. 5. On Windows taskbar, in the notification area, right-click the icon "e-Parcel VCN-AX x.x" (grayed-out effect), then select "Exit" from pop-up menu.

  7. 6. On a new computer, locate ①a new folder below where you have specified while software installation. And then replace it (Don't overwrite!) with ①the previous folder copied as backup at [Old PC Procedure 3.].

      ①Default location (Database folder/Data storage folder) is C:\e-Parcel\VCN-AX 5.0/4.0

    Note: Please don't overwrite! First, delete new folder. And then save the old folder copied previously. (Replace new folder with old one.)

    * Attention 2: If you have changed the location of Database folder and/or Data storage folder on a new computer while software installation at [New PC Procedure 3. Attention 1], locate two new folders (②\db: Database folder/③\data: Data storage folder) where you have specified on a new computer and then replace these (Don't overwrite!) with the previous folders copied as backup.

     (If ②③ folders are located in a same folder, replace a new parent folder (Don't overwrite!) with the previous parent folder including two folders (①\VCN-AX 5.0/4.0) copied as backup.)

      ②Database folder : (Default folder path is C:\e-Parcel\VCN-AX 5.0/4.0\db)

      ③Data storage folder :(Default folder path is C:\e-Parcel\VCN-AX 5.0/4.0\data)

    * If you change HotFolder Location and Automation Location on a new computer, locate where you specify on a new computer and then save (create) ④⑤the previous folders copied as backup at [Old PC Procedure 4.].

    * Caution: The "service" for e-Parcel VCN-AX 5.0/4.0 often runs with log on as Local System account by default. When you change the location of "HotFolder Location" and "Automation Location", please be sure that Windows logon account of the "service" for e-Parcel VCN-AX must be authorized to "Modify" the specified folders.   9. 8. Select the Windows "Start" menu > e-Parcel > "VCN-AX Manager 5.0" or "Launch AxManager".

    * For Windows 8 or earlier: Select the Windows "Start" menu > All Programs > e-Parcel > VCN-AX 5.0/4.0 > "VCN-AX Manager 5.0" or "Launch AxManager".

    When VCN-AX Manager (axmanager.exe) is started, Windows shows the icon "e-Parcel VCN-AX x.x" (grayed-out effect) in the notification area on the taskbar.

  10. 9. On Windows taskbar, in the notification area, right-click the icon "e-Parcel VCN-AX x.x" (grayed-out effect), then select "Auto Setup" from pop-up menu. In processing, the "Setup is Proceeding …" is displayed.

    * At this time, if the "Select a Certificate" dialog appears, carefully select a client certificate of your e-Parcel ID. Then, click the "OK" button to begin auto-setup.

    [For Windows 10 or later] Click "More choices" on the "Select a Certificate" dialog to view all certificates. Then, select one.

    * If the network in your company has been configured the proxy server which requires user authentication, the "Proxy Authentication Required" dialog will appear.

    [In case of the proxy server with NTLM or Integrated Windows Authentication]

    Input "Windows user account name@domain" as a user name and password, and click the "OK" button to authenticate.

    [In case of the proxy server with other authentication method than the above]

    Input the proxy credentials (User name, Password), and click the "OK" button to authenticate.

    If you are not sure of the proxy credentials, contact your network administrator to obtain the correct information.

    While auto-setup, when the Confirmation dialog shows the message "Previous installation found. Proceeding setup may cause it dysfunctional.", click the "OK" button to proceed.

  11. 10. Start Windows "Service" for e-Parcel VCN-AX 5.0/4.0.

    * For Windows 10 or later, select the Windows "Start" menu > "Windows Administrative Tools" > "Service". In the Services pane, select the "e-Parcel VCN-AX x.x" listed and then start the service.

    * For Windows 8 or earlier, select the Windows "Start" menu > "Control Panel" > "System and Security" > "Administrative Tools" > "Services". In the Services pane, select the "e-Parcel VCN-AX x.x" listed and then start the service.

  12. 11. Double-click the shortcut icon "VCN-AX x.x" on the desktop. (Or, on Windows taskbar, in the notification area, right-click the icon "e-Parcel VCN-AX x.x", then select "Open" from pop-up menu.) The browser-based "VCN-AX Management Console" is opened by the default browser application. Click the menu "Authorization (Credential)", then confirm the "System Status" field to show "Online".

    (On Windows taskbar, in the notification area, the icon "e-Parcel VCN-AX x.x" is colored while the system status is "Online".)

    Note: To open VCN-AX Management Console needs for Windows to start the service "e-Parcel VCN-AX x.x".

    * If the system status is not "Online", refer to this Q&A page and carefully read to take the necessary change.

  13. 12. When you have installed the software to set the location of Database folder and Data storage folder, HotFolder Location and Automation Location to ①④⑤Default location on both new and old computers, proceed to the procedure 15.

    When you have changed the location of Data storage folder on either new or old computer, proceed to the procedure 13.

    When you change or have changed HotFolder Location and Automation Location on either new or old computer, proceed to the procedure 14.

  14. 13. When you have changed the location of Data storage folder on either new or old computer, click the menu "Configuration" > "User Config" on the Management Console. The User Configuration pane appears. See the setting "Data Storage Path". Depending on the cases below, take either [A. confirm] or [B. change] the setting "Data Storage Path".

    [A. The "Data storage folder" is set in the same location as a previous pc while installation in a new pc.]

    It should be shown correctly. Confirm that the setting "Data Storage Path" is a correct location on the User Configuration pane. And then proceed to the procedure 14.

      ③ Data storage folder :(Default folder path is C:\e-Parcel\VCN-AX 5.0/4.0\data)

    [B. Tthe "Data storage folder" is set in the different location from a previous pc while installation in a new pc.]

    At this point, the setting "Data Storage Path" has still shown an old location of a previous computer on the User Configuration pane.

    Attention 3: It must be changed to a correct new location where you have specified while software installation on a new computer.

    In the setting "Data Storage Path", input full path of ③folder which you have already replaced at [New PC Procedure 6.]. Then click the "Apply" button to take effect.

    (Either ③folder below or a location where you have specified should be input.)

      ③ Data storage folder :(Default folder path is C:\e-Parcel\VCN-AX 5.0/4.0\data)

    When change is made, proceed to the procedure 14.

    * Caution: The "service" for e-Parcel VCN-AX 5.0/4.0 often runs with log on as Local System account by default. When you change the location of "Data storage folder", please be sure that Windows logon account of the "service" for e-Parcel VCN-AX must be authorized to "Modify" the specified folders. The details are described in this Q&A page.

    * Caution: Don't operate directly any data within the "Data storage folder". Therefore, this system folder has been controlled by the e-Parcel system. When you wish to change the settings or move files from inbox etc., please be sure that you must operate through the Management Console.

  15. 14. When you change or have changed HotFolder Location and Automation Location on either new or old computer, click the menu "Configuration (System Config)" on the Management Console. The System Configuration window appears. See the settings "HotFolder Location" and "Automation Location". Depending on the cases below, confirm or change (take either A or B) the settings "HotFolder Location" and "Automation Location".

    [A. The "HotFolder Location" or "Automation Location" are set in the same locations as a previous pc.]

  16. 15. On the Management Console, confirm that the previous inbox/outbox histories and configurations have been recovered successfully.

    Also, on the HotFolder Configuration and Automation Configuration window, confirm that the status fields for the HotFolder and Automation entries (conditions) are green-colored (active) with checking of operation.

  17. 16. Return to the upper column [Old PC Procedures 7.] to uninstall (delete) the existing client software from a previous computer.

    * Note that the existing e-Parcel client software will be offline (inactive) in a previous computer just after the same e-Parcel ID has been set up to the software in a new computer.

    * One e-Parcel ID is NOT available to use in the multiple computers. One e-Parcel ID must be set up to the e-Parcel client software in only one computer.
